Since 2004 George Tait has dedicated his practice to helping injured people and their families get fair and full compensation from the insurance companies.

Before becoming an attorney George Tait was a Registered Nurse for over 15 years. The last years of his nursing career were in the University of Utah Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit helping care for burn victims.

George is also an avid motorcycle rider and George Tait Law is a supporter of several charity motorcycle events across Utah. George is also an active member of the American Association of Justice and the Utah Association of Justice helping to keep the doors of the courtroom open to those who have been hurt by the negligence of others.
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A woman was visiting a hair salon and she and her son were getting hair cuts next to each other. The hairdresser, before cutting the woman\'s hair, walked the woman back to have her hair shampooed. Her son meanwhile was having his hair cut. Half way through cutting her son\'s hair, another hairdresser walked him back to have his hair shampooed. The woman was walked back to her chair by the hairdresser with a towel wrapped about her sopping wet hair obstructing her vision. The son\'s hairdresser never swept up the hair lying on the floor from cutting the woman\'s son\'s hair. The woman was guided through the hair on the floor and slipped breaking her foot. The outcome of the case was a $185,000 settlement.

How did you build a successful practice?

When I was a young man, long before i was a lawyer, I was driving my wife and boy to the beach on a beautiful summer morning. A woman in a car pulled an illegal U-turn directly in front of me causing me to crash into the side of her car. I represented myself and eventually went to trial--I lost. This was the \"beginning\" of my legal career because I was so shocked that the woman\'s attorney had manipulated the facts to show I was at fault. This stayed with me until even today--some 40 years later. When I was in law school, at the ripe age of 40, a friend of mine was in a motorcycle case and he was getting nowhere with the offender\'s insurance company. He asked me for help and we eventually won a substantial settlement. I learned that the insurance companies will do nearly anything to deny a reasonable claim, not pay what is due, and use every means to thwart a fair outcome. After these experiences I never looked back. I knew that people injured by others are essentially at the mercy of the insurance companies and they need help to get fair treatment and reach a reasonable outcome.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for a lawyer who will listen--I mean really LISTEN! Look--most lawyers know the law but no one person knows your case like you know your case. You need to trust your lawyer to tell him everything you know--no matter how trivial or embarrassing you may think it is. This is necessary because even the little things matter when you are fighting the insurance companies. If your layer talks more than he listens, if you rarely speak to your attorney but instead are shunted to others, or your lawyer rarely calls you back--you have the wrong lawyer.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Lawyers go through four years of undergraduate studies to earn a bachelor degree and then three years to earn their doctorate in juris prudence--their law degree. Does this mean the lawyer knows the law? Only with experience comes the full understanding of how the law works and only with experience does the ability to know how to represent their clients does a lawyer fully appreciate how it all meshes together. Only with practice does your lawyer become truly adept at representing clients in fighting for full and fair compensation when injured.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We can usually tell you whether you have a case or not on the first phone call. Once we know the answers to a few questions we will be able to tell you an approximate value of your case. We can also tell you the best way of going about getting fair compensation--whether we go about settling your case or whether you should go to trial.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

You need to tell us what happened, when it happened, the people or company involved, and what the eventual outcome for you that resulted. This information will allow us to determine whether you have a case and the best way to go about getting you fair compensation.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

What makes me different from other layers is that I was a registered nurse for twenty years before becoming an attorney. I understand the medicine and the pain that caused you so much grief. Being able to understand the medicine allows me to argue with the insurance companies in a meaningful way so that their arguments (usually false arguments) are dispensed with quickly and they know they are dealing with someone that not only knows the law but also understands the medicine. Placing them on notice that we know both the law and the medicine usually makes them sit up and listen resulting in shortened time to settlement or excellent preparation for trial--should trial be necessary.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my occupation is getting clients fair compensation for their injuries. When doing this I get great satisfaction from holding the big powerful insurance companies accountable.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am an avid motorcycle rider. I own two motorcycles and ride with people all the time. My son and daughter both ride motorcycles and this makes it a family affair. We have toured across the nation meeting all kinds of people. Never met a motorcycle rider I did not like.

Are you involved in your community?

Our firm supports many local motorcycle clubs raising money throughout the year for much-needed charities. Some of the people we help through these charities are veterans, injured children and their families, and injured motorcycle riders.
